There are plenty of unsung heroes out there; they just do what comes naturally to them. Even though sometimes it seems like nothing to them, others don’t think that.
During a flood, it is often farms and animals that suffer the biggest blow, with many animals simply unable to be saved.
Texas copped a beating with floods in 2015 and 2016, with at least 18 major flood events recorded.
Many people grouped together and set out in boats to save stranded animals, and Curtis O’Brien was among them.
One incident that was reported was the rescue of a stranded cow; she had reached total exhaustion and was just floating in the swollen floodwaters. She looked like a floating log, not an animal.
“Labor Day flood 2016. Brazos river. Rosenberg Texas. I’m the one in the blue life jacket with (a) black hat,” O’Brien told TheDodo.
“There you go, girl. Swim a little bit. Swim a little bit,” one in the group implored the cow in a video posted by TheDodo.
However, she was unable to help save her own life.
They managed to keep her afloat for an hour harnessed beside their boat before they found dry land, a superhuman feat in itself. The cow lay in the shallow water, with just her head on the embankment.
Then, with a bit of persuasion from the crew, “Come on. Come on, girl … Get up! Let’s go! Get up!” urged one of the men, the exhausted beast made it to her feet and wandered off in search of greener pastures.
Just another good deed by some of our unsung heroes!
